Sporting my own Starz Selection design.Summertime; those special few months that seem to fly by in a flash yet, once in while you get days that seem to go on forever. A strange contradiction but the perfect way to explain what makes this time of year so special. To me, the Summer is what I best relate to as the end of the year. I suppose it has something to do with all those years spent in school - connecting with the Fall as the beginning. A new school, new grade, new clothes, new supplies, maybe even a new neighborhood. More than that though, I feel like Summer is the final opportunity to test out all that you've learned in the last year. In school that meant still being at the top. Proving that you know the ropes; know the ins and outs of your grade before you are dumped on to the start line yet again. Feeling exposed and vulnerable to "the new" coming your way. Those years spent going from feeling like we know it all, to feeling like we know nothing, set us up perfectly for the incredible journey that is our life. Finding a way to recognize that the beginning of a new stage in life is ultimately what we hope to continue to collide into year after year. A reminder that it feels great to become a master at whatever you so choose, but it feels even better to be thrown back into the chaos and unknowing start of something fresh and foreign. I look at Summer as a way to enjoy the fruits of my year's labor and then ceremoniously force myself to begin something new no matter how scary it is to be back at the start line. The good news is you get to bring all that you have learned with you, and access it anyway you wish.
This Summer issue of TUSK is full of fun articles and images that will make you feel immersed in one of those spectacular, lingering, perfect days of Summer. Our photo feature will take your mind to a relaxed place filled with radiating femininity and elegant Summer styling. It's always been my style to use "everyday" women as my chosen models, and this month is no exception. Women that I find interesting, unique and inspiring. Our cover model, Sara Castellanos is a reporter for the Aurora Sentinel newspaper and also the author of a great article on the upcoming Underground Music Showcase. A perfect way to spend one of those never ending Summer days.
Enjoy your Summer and I will see you all fresh and new in the Fall.
Cheers,
